NENA Launches New Online Introductory Training Program for 9-1-1 Dispatchers
NENA: The 9-1-1 Association and delivery partner Virtual Academy are excited to announce the availability of a new, 40-hour, self-paced, online course entitled Telecommunicator Core Competencies. The class provides the essential and foundational training that 9-1-1 professionals need to deliver effective and efficient 9-1-1 service to the public. Upon completion of this program, graduates are equipped to excel in their roles.

Now more than ever, it is imperative that everyone who handles 9-1-1 calls receives the best possible training from day one. NENA’s Telecommunicator Core Competencies program makes that possible at a price everyone can afford.”
The curriculum, built to meet and exceed the recommended minimum-training guidelines issued by the U.S. National 911 Program, provides best-in-class practical knowledge and skills in areas , including:
- Call handling and processing for all emergency types;
- Using emergency management systems and databases;
- Quality assurance and quality improvement;
- Customer service;
- Critical thinking
- PSAP-technology basics;
- Radio systems;
- Legal concepts;
- Interpersonal communications; and
- Health and wellness.
The course has a low, one-time cost of $299 for individuals, with no recurring fees or recertification requirements. Groups can obtain reduced-price, multi-seat licenses by contacting NENA Education Director Ty Wooten, ENP.
